Government and Pathibhara cable car protesters reach a six-point agreement

KATHMANDU, Feb 05:The construction of the Pathibhara cable car has been halted. In talks on Tuesday, the government and the the protesting ‘No Cable Car Group’ agreed to halt constructing work . It has been agreed to undertake detailed discussions about the station during the talks on February 9.

The government and agitating groups are said to have reached a six-point agreement.

The Mukkumlung Conservation Joint Struggle Committee, Pathivara cable car Dismissal Joint Struggle Committee, Kirat Yakthung Chumlung Federal Committee, Mukkumlung Tansep Chumbho, Mukkumlung Protection Inter-Party Struggle Committee, Kirat Religion & Literature Uplifting Association, Limbu Tharagat Sanstha (Yakthung Sayang), Province 1 Renaming Joint Struggle Committee, and Province 1 Renaming Campaign Committee had started the agitation in protest against the construction.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had formed a negotiation team to hold talks with them.

The agreement includes a written agreement between the two parties to  halt construction work, provide free medical treatment to those injured during the protest as announced by the government, investigate the January 25 incident and take legal action, unconditionally release those detained during the protest, halt the transportation shutdown announced by the Mumkumlung protectorate, and resume talks next Sunday morning.

Saraswati Singak (Saru) represents the Negotiation Facilitation Committee, while Joint Secretary Prem Prasad Bhattarai coordinates the government negotiation team.
