POKHARA, Jan 29:The National Rafting Marathon Competition has started. The Gandaki Province Sports Development Council organized the Ultra Rafting Marathon on Wednesday.
The rafting starts at the Trishuli River, which connects Bhumlichowk in Gandaki Rural Municipality and Fisling in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality of Chitwan, and ends at the Narayani River in Devghat, Chitwan.
Basanta Raj Dawadi, the council's adventure sports coordinator, said the competition would span two days. 'They arrived in Simaltal today and settled down; they will end up at Devghat tomorrow.' He stated that the winner will be determined by the time it takes to cover the specified 50-kilometer distance.
Six teams are taking part in the competition. 'The competition included two teams from Gandaki Province, two teams from the Nepali Army, and one team each from Koshi and Bagtami Provinces,' Dawadi said.
The competition's first, second, third, and fourth place finishers will get cash awards of Rs 60,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 20,000, and Rs 10,000, respectively, along with medals and certificates. They will also be eligible to compete in the future national sports selection competition. Dawadi stated that an ultra rafting marathon competition was organized for the first time in Nepal as part of the council's yearly approved adventure competition program.
