RNP AR implemented at Gautam Buddha International Airport
KATHMANDU, Jan 24:The Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa has implemented Required Navigation Performance Authorization Required (RNP AR).
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has installed the RNP AR system at Gautam Buddha Airport to address the issue of planes being delayed owing to fog.
Beginning on Thursday, planes can land in Gautam Buddha with 800 meters of visibility thanks to CAAN's deployment of the RNP AR system.
CAAN Information Officer Gyanendra Bhul stated that Fly Dubai has begun the process of aircraft takeoff/landing using the RNP AR system.
The RNP AR system was introduced at Gautam Buddha International Airport on Thursday. 'Airlines can now fly in limited visibility with our approval,' he added, adding that Fly Dubai has already begun the procedure.
To land flights using this system, the airline company will need to train its pilots and install special equipment on the aircraft. Approval will have to be obtained from CAAN.
Previously, aircraft landed at Gautam Buddha Airport using the Very High Frequency (VOR) system. In this case, aircraft landing requires a minimum visibility of 1,800 meters.
International airlines momentarily halted operations at Bhairahawa as visibility was reduced owing to fog in the morning, impacting flights.
Thai Air Asia, Fly Dubai, Jazeera Airways, and Nepal Airlines Corporation was currently operate regular commercial flights from Bhairahawa Airport.
This system will be operated via satellite. Previously, the RNP AR system was also implemented at Tribhuvan International Airport.
