Govt opens 57  peaks for mountaineering

KATHMANDU, Jan 14:In Nepal, climbers can now climb 57 additional mountains. On Monday, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation released a notification in the Nepal Gazette allowing for such climbing.

The Secretary of the Ministry, Krishnahari Pushkar, issued a notice stating that mountain climbing is now permitted under Sub-rule 1 of Rule 2 of the Mountaineering Regulations 2059.

Previously, the government decided to allow climbing on such mountains in Asoj last year. Last year, the Department of Tourism approved authorization to climb these mountains in Asaj, which range in height from 6,000 to 6,650 meters.

Earlier, authorization was granted to climb 419 mountains in Nepal. With this, the total number of authorized mountains now stands at 476.
