On Monday, a team led by the Tourism Minister reviewed the work being done to improve the airport's capacity. Since November 8, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has been working to enlarge the international airport by halting flights for ten hours every day.
The CAAN's Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project is making satisfactory progress on the expansion work, which includes the parallel taxiway on the south-west side of the airport, the international apron on the north side, and the hangar apron on the east side, according to project chief Dipendra Shrestha. He stated that the work is proceeding nicely, with three contract agreements signed to finish the work within the time frame specified.
Observing the various works being carried out to increase the airport's capacity, Minister Pandey stated that the current construction work is satisfactory and expressed confidence that the airport's flight services will be operational once the construction work is completed by March 31.
The runway capacity is expected to grow by 20 to 25 percent following the airport redevelopment, making air traffic management easier.
