KATHMANDU, Jan 02:RNP-AR, a satellite-based landing and take-off system, will be launched at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa on January 23, according to Pradeep Adhikari, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. Addressing CAAN's 26th anniversary celebration, he stated that with the debut of the RNP-AR system, aircraft will be able to land with 800 meters of visibility.

Currently, the IFR system requires 1800 meters of sight. Director General Adhikari stated that once the satellite-based landing and take-off system is operational, frequent flights will resume even during the winter months. CAAN will launch the satellite-based system after India denied permission to use the Instrument Landing System (ILS), which cost one billion rupees to install.

Nepal now has 28 airlines that provide international flights.
