CAAN Celebrates Connectivity, Collaboration, and Commitment on 26th Anniversary
KATHMANDU, Dec 31:The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) marked its 26th anniversary today at its headquarters, celebrating its milestones and addressing the challenges ahead. The event was graced by Chief Guest Hon. Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, alongside Hon. Arun Kumar Chaudhary, State Minister, and Secretary Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey.
Hon. Badri Prasad Pandey emphasized the critical role of aviation in Nepal’s development, highlighting the country’s reliance on air connectivity due to its challenging geography. He stressed the need to promote Nepal’s tourism and culture through aviation while ensuring safety. Pandey called for enhanced policies and collaboration with private organizations to strengthen the aviation network and CAAN’s reputation.
Hon. Arun Kumar Chaudhary commended CAAN’s cohesive teamwork and its proactive approach to problem-solving. He lauded the authority’s consistent efforts to improve aviation infrastructure and operations and expressed optimism about future advancements.
Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey focused on aligning CAAN’s infrastructure plans with national development goals. He emphasized the strategic importance of air connectivity for economic growth and urged CAAN to prioritize bridging remote regions with urban centers.
AOAN President Mr. Manoj Karki addressed the financial challenges faced by airlines, citing inconsistent policies and limited support as key hurdles. He urged the government to provide a stable platform for airlines, streamline regulations, and focus on improving air connectivity in remote areas essential for local communities.
Director General Er. Pradeep Adhikari presented CAAN’s significant achievements in 2024, including a 7% increase in international passengers, totaling over 44 lakh, and a 13% rise in domestic passengers, surpassing 87 lakh. He highlighted key infrastructure developments, including taxiways, landing systems, and baggage handling at major airports, reaffirming CAAN’s commitment to safety and efficiency.
The event also featured the launch of the “c-Portal” system, the unveiling of CAAN’s souvenir and report, and award distribution to employees for their long service and contributions. Deputy Director General Hansa Raj Pandey concluded with a vote of thanks, emphasizing CAAN’s dedication to advancing Nepal’s aviation sector.
The ceremony underscored CAAN’s crucial role in promoting connectivity and economic development, with aspirations for greater achievements by its 27th anniversary.
