Mercure Kathmandu: Majestic Five-Star Luxury at Sukedhara Heights

KATHMANDU, Dec 25:In the Sukedhara, Kathmandu, a striking new landmark is ready to redefine Nepal’s hospitality landscape. The five-star Mercure Kathmandu, managed by the internationally renowned Accor Group, is set to officially open its doors on February 2, 2025. This luxurious hotel is not just an architectural marvel but also a symbol of Nepal's ambition to position itself as a global tourism hub.

Spread over six ropanis, the hotel boasts an 11-story structure, blending contemporary luxury with Nepal’s rich cultural heritage. Its visionary founder, Deshbandhu Basnet, has spearheaded this grand project with a total investment of over 3 billion rupees. With 104 opulent rooms, ranging from $120 to $500 per night, Mercure Kathmandu promises an unforgettable experience for both leisure and business travelers.

The hotel's amenities include an Italian restaurant led by an international chef, an Indian specialty restaurant, and a heated swimming pool on the 11th floor, offering breathtaking views of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan ranges. Two banquet halls, capable of hosting 400 guests, cater to grand events, while modern meeting rooms and wellness facilities make it ideal for corporate retreats.

Basnet’s vision extends beyond the hotel itself. Recognizing the importance of community development, he has transformed the surrounding area by constructing 140 meters of public road and a green park. His commitment to preserving and promoting local heritage is evident in the hotel's design, which harmoniously integrates Nepali art and culture with modern aesthetics.

Accor’s Mercure brand, managing over 1,000 hotels worldwide, has entered Nepal for the first time through this venture. With its global reputation for excellence, Mercure Kathmandu is poised to set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in the region.

Looking to the future, Basnet plans to expand the hotel’s offerings by incorporating casino services within a year. Additional land has already been acquired to facilitate this and other enhancements, solidifying Mercure Kathmandu’s status as a premier destination in Nepal.

Strategically located just 14 minutes from Tribhuvan International Airport, the hotel is expected to attract both international and domestic tourists. With its grand opening around the corner, Mercure Kathmandu is more than just a hotel—it's a celebration of Nepali resilience, innovation, and cultural pride.
