Chitwan National Park takes action against 65 persons who violated rules
CHITWAN, Dec 20:Chitwan National Park has arrested 65 people for various offenses since October 29 . It has launched a campaign to effectively advance the conservation of the park and buffer zone.
According to the park's information officer and conservation officer Abinash Thapa Magar, the park has arrested one person for tiger-related offenses, two for keeping wild boars without permission, 30 for entering the park without permission to cut grass and firewood, 23 for fishing, one for killing pigeons, and eight for entering the park without permission to pick fiddlehead.
He informed that those who enter the park and act against the rules are arrested and action is taken as per the rules.
In the meantime, he said that discussions have been held with stakeholders to enhance coordination and cooperation between the concerned bodies to control poaching and illegal trade of wildlife.
In the last one and a half months, two rhinos and a tiger have been found dead in various places within the park and buffer zone, informed the information officer Magar. He said that on November 22, a female rhinoceros of about 31 years old was found dead after drowning in the second gorge of the Narayani River within the Majhuwa Intermediate Community Forest area. On November 23, a female rhinoceros of about 35 years old was found dead due to aging near the Dhruv Post of the park. He said that the horn and hooves of both the rhinoceros that died due to aging are intact.
Similarly, on December 1, he informed that a six-year-old tiger was found dead at Nandapurghat in Nawalpur under the Amaltari sector. Magar said that the tiger died after fighting with another tiger. During this period, two people have died and four others have been injured due to rhinoceros attacks.
He informed that 65-year-old Chun Bahadur Bote of Kawasoti-7 in Nawalpur district and 65-year-old Nathuram Mahato of Madhyabindu-6 in Nawalpur died on November 5 when they were attacked by rhinos while planting potatoes in a field while entering the Krishnasar buffer community forest. He said that the park is working in collaboration with the community under the wildlife conservation campaign and will conduct the campaign more systematically during the winter months.
