Kirat community celebrates Udhauli festival

KATHMANDU, Dec 15:The Kirat community celebrated the Udhauli festival.

The Kirat group held the Udhauli celebration on Sunday, the full moon day of Margashirsha, to commemorate ancestors and appreciate nature.

Udhauli is celebrated by the Kirat Yakkhas as Chasuwa, the Sunuwars as Folsyadar, the Rais as Udhauli Sakela, and the Limbus as Chasok Tangnam.

The Kirat community observes the Udhauli festival as a day to offer offerings to the deities after the crops have matured, to request permission to eat, and to remember the ancestors. During the planting season, the Kirat community holds the Udhauli festival.

Kirat ladies and men have celebrated the occasion with a variety of dances and ceremonies, clothed in ethnic clothes and conducting Bhoomi Puja.

After the puja, it is usual to enjoy oneself by performing traditional Sakela Sili and Chhyabrung dances. Kirats, who perform Ubhauli puja on the Shukla Purnima of the first full moon of the month of Baishakh, today after performing Udhauli puja, descend from the top.
