Don't forget the Supreme Court's order regarding the Gadhimai Mela: Ministry of Tourism
KATHMANDU, Dec 06:The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has urged stakeholders to heed the Supreme Court's judgment of 20 Shrawan 2073 BS regulating animal sacrifices at the Gadhimai Mela.
The ministry issued a press release reminding them to follow the Supreme Court's order in the light of queries raised concerning certain traditional and customary behaviors.
The court had issued a mandate to discourage the government from taking any direct, indirect, or supportive role in the process of animal sacrifices.
In addition, the Supreme Court directed that the meat and other components of the animals sacrificed be properly managed in order to ensure a healthy and clean environment by controlling environmental contamination during the Gadhimai Mela.
It also ordered the determination, testing, and control of meat quality, the maintenance of a clean environment in the Gadhimai Temple and its surroundings, and the making of necessary arrangements to prevent adverse effects on local public health caused by the blood, meat, skin, and other factors of the sacrificed animals.
The Ministry of Tourism has also suggested that the fair be organized in accordance with the same Supreme Court judgment.
