India's first chartered flight to PRIA
POKHARA, Nov 30:Pokhara Regional International Airport (PRIA) has had its first chartered flight from India. This is the first charter flight from India to Pokhara since the airport opened nearly two years ago. This is the single-engine aircraft, weighing 35,000 kg, that arrived in Pokhara from India.
According to Jasudha Subedi, Deputy Director and Information Officer at Pokhara Airport, a small aircraft from the European company Zell Air arrived in Pokhara at 5:50 p.m. on Thursday from New Delhi.
The aircraft carrying 4 passengers including crew members left for Bangladesh at 4:40 pm on Friday, according to airport information officer Subedi.
Although regular international flights have not been possible thus far, nine international chartered flights from China and Bhutan have been undertaken in the two years since Pokhara Airport opened.
A chartered flight from China is scheduled for December 26. Guests, including athletes, have traveled to Pokhara from China for events such as the Dragon Boat Festival and the Cross Country Mountain Race.
Himalaya Airlines, a private airline that offers international aviation services, plans to run frequent flights from Pokhara International Airport to Lhasa Airport in Tibet.
Although the tourism and private sectors in Pokhara have demanded international flights, these needs have yet to be met.
