TTDC Saat Ghumti Sub-Committee provides warm support to Rickshaw Riders
KATHMANDU, Nov 25:Fifty rickshaw riders in Thamel received fur jackets and caps, a gesture of gratitude and support from the Saat Ghumti Sub-Committee under the Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC). The initiative, funded by donations from local shopkeepers, was a result of utilizing the extra funds after the installation of festive lights across the bustling tourism hub, creating a vibrant atmosphere for the season.
Gita Gurung, chairperson of the sub-committee since 2017, explained that the project aimed to acknowledge the hard work of rickshaw riders while enhancing the festive spirit in Thamel. She highlighted the sub-committee's efforts to lead by example, hoping to inspire other organizations and sub-committees to prioritize both community support and tourism development.
This marked the first fundraising effort by the sub-committee since 2018, when Gurung introduced a sustainable financing model. The funds gathered that year were invested, generating enough interest to support developmental projects without requiring frequent collections. Transparency has been a cornerstone of Gurung’s leadership, with systems in place to account for fund usage and annual meetings held to foster collaboration among business owners in the area.
“Our achievements are the result of the tireless efforts of our sub-committee members,” Gurung remarked, expressing her gratitude to the team and the community for their contributions. She called on others to follow their example in creating initiatives that strengthen both the community and Thamel’s standing as a tourism hub.
The event also saw participation from Ward No. 16 candidate Devendra Pathak, who praised the sub-committee’s dedication and pledged his support for their future endeavors.
