Mt Manaslu climbers' attraction increased
KATHMANDU, Oct 11:The attraction of climbers has increased in climbing Mt. Manaslu. Like last year, Manaslu is the eighth-highest mountain in the world and the seventh in Nepal, and the attraction of climbers has been seen in this year's fall season as well.
According to Rakesh Gurung, Director of Tourism, 308 persons from 28 climbing groups applied for permission to climb Manaslu this season, which is 8,163 meters high. It contains 82 ladies and 226 men.
"The attraction of climbers has been seen in Manaslu climbing" , he noted. "Manaslu climbing is almost over, most of the people who have taken permission have successfully climbed.
Climbing started here about two weeks ago. According to the department, 301 persons from 26 climbing clubs applied for authorization to climb Manaslu last season. Amadablam and Himlung are both currently being climbed.
The department stated that mountain climbing is encouraging in the face of natural disasters such as floods and landslides in the country caused by persistent rain on September 27th and 28th. Although there was not much damage in mountain climbing, there were some problems in trekking, the department said.
According to the department's mountaineering branch, 510 climbers, comprising 113 women and 379 men from 61 climbing organizations, have applied for permission to climb 34 mountains and 'peaks' this season, including Manaslu.
Climbers from 58 countries, including Nepal, have sought permission to climb various peaks. This season, the government has collected Rs 4 crore 97 lakh 33 thousand 58 in royalties from mountain climbing.
18 climbers from two groups, 14 climbers from one group in Dhavalagiri, and two climbs from one group in Makalu have requested permission to climb Amadabalam.
The 60-year diamond festival was held in the year 2073 on Manaslu mountain in Gorkha, which has a long history of mountaineering.
