Five Russian climbers died on Mount Dhaulagiri
KATHMANDU, Oct 09:Five climbers died while ascending Mt. Dhaulagiri. Rakesh Gurung, director of the department of tourism, said that since 11:00 pm on Sunday evening, the climbers without contact had been found dead.
According to Director Gurung, the climbers who decided to return to the lower camp on Sunday after reaching around 8,000 meters during the climb died. "They have informed their friends at the base camp that they have decided to return," Gurung told. However, we lost contact with them around 11 p.m. He was found deceased only on Tuesday morning, after a daylong search on Monday.
They are well-known and skilled climbers from Russia.
This year, 14 climbers went to climb Mount Dhaulagiri. Seven climbers climbed in two groups. It was reported to the department that six of them had given up because they could not ascend. Out of the remaining eight people, two successfully completed the ascent and returned to base camp.
While the remaining six persons were climbing, one of them abandoned the climb in the middle and returned to base camp. Climbers who were determined to climb have died.
According to the department, they were unable to be transported to the base camp owing to inclement weather. 14 Russian climbers got permission from IAM Trekking for this season.
