Nation marking World Tourism Day today
KATHMANDU, Sep 27: The 45th World Tourism Day is being marked in the country by organizing several programmes.
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board, Department of Tourism and the leading organizations of tourism sector are hosting different events to mark this day.
In order to mark the day with fanfare, the 45th World Tourism Day Main Celebration Committee has been formed under the leadership of Minister for Tourism Badri Prasad Pandey.
World Tourism Day is being marked on September 27 every year with the slogan ‘Promoting Accessible Tourism for All’ whereas the Day is marked with the slogan of 'Tourism and Peace' in Nepal.
As part of this day, the foreign tourists landing at Tribhuvan International Airport were welcomed this morning.
Likewise, the organizations and individuals contributing to tourism promotion would be felicitated.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism Ramkrishna Lamichhane said that all three layers of government, the private sector, CBOs and NGOs have partnered to organize the events.
Meanwhile, Minister Pandey has urged all stakeholders to establish Nepal as an outstanding tourism destination in the world market.
In a message of best wishes today, Minister Pandey has said that Nepal is ornamented with natural, cultural and historical heritages and we need to establish Nepal as the best tourist destination in the world by integrating our culture, nature, heritage and history with the touristic activities.
Joint Secretary and Ministry's Spokesperson Lamichhane said that different persons and organizations from the tourism fraternity would be honoured on this Day.
Currently, the country's tourism business has recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic and has shown positive growth. In the year 2023, Nepal received more than 1 million tourists while the number of visitors has crossed 800,000 till the first eight months of the current fiscal year. The peak season for tourism September to November is expected to receive more tourists compared to the previous years.
The Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has also believed that Tourism Day would inspire all, especially the tourism fraternity, to have the confidence to bring about economic prosperity in the country through tourism.
HAN's President Binayak Shah said that we should take maximum advantage of tourism by harnessing its potential.
