South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2024 Celebrated in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Sep 25:The 8th edition of the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2024 was successfully concluded in Kathmandu, with a prestigious Gala and Awards ceremony held at Aloft Kathmandu Thamel. The event attracted key players in the hospitality and travel industry, including hotels, resorts, airlines, and travel agents, from across South Asia.

Honoring excellence in the tourism sector, SATA 2024 saw over 400 nominations, showcasing the vibrancy of the region’s travel industry. Nepal played a significant role, with the presence of Hon. Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) CEO Deepak Joshi, emphasizing the importance of tourism in Nepal. The event was supported by NTB and Hotel Association Nepal (HAN).

Nepal received notable recognition as the Leading Heritage Destination, highlighting the country's rich cultural history. The late Ambica Shrestha and Karna Shakya, renowned contributors to Nepal's tourism sector, were honored posthumously in the “Faces of South Asia” awards, marking their lasting impact on South Asia’s travel industry.

Among the key winners from Nepal, Kavya Himalayas was named the Leading Hill ResortHyatt Place Kathmandu took the title of Leading City Hotel, and The Soaltee Kathmandu was recognized as the Leading Meeting and Conference Hotel. Additionally, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel received the Best CSR Programme award, further cementing Nepal's place in the regional tourism landscape.

Speaking at the event, SATA President Ismail Hameed stressed the need for continued collaboration within South Asia to promote tourism. The event celebrated not only achievements in hospitality but also fostered valuable networking opportunities for industry professionals. SATA remains committed to highlighting the best of South Asia’s travel industry, driving sustainable growth across the region.

The awards underscored Nepal’s growing stature as a premier destination in South Asia, with its tourism sector steadily recovering post-pandemic and playing a key role in the country’s economic revitalization.
