NAC announced the primary plans that will be carried out during next four years
KATHMANDU, Sep 24:Yuvaraj Adhikari, executive chairman of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), announced the NAC's primary aims for the next four years.
The presiding officer announced plans to fly directly to Sydney, Australia, in order to compete with the private sector. This includes adding 9 aircraft to domestic routes and purchasing narrowbody and widebody planes for international flights.
According to the proposal, a total of 15 aircraft have been purchased, 9 domestic and 6 international.
The NAC intends to purchase 15 planes during the next four years, comprising five STOL (Short Take Off and Landing), four urban flights, four narrow bodies, and two wide bodies.
Also, in the first phase, an RFP for the procurement of three STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) planes was issued and is now being evaluated.
The chairman's strategy calls on the NAC to make final preparations for frequent flights to Sydney, Australia.
Similarly, he stated that a subcommittee has been established to investigate the feasibility of hiring two narrow-body aircraft for international flights and three planes for domestic urban flights.
The NAC has proposed a plan to use concessional loans to add aircrafts to domestic and international routes. For this, the NAC has also requested proposals from other banks and financial institutions totaling 1 trillion 35 billion rupees.
Similarly, the NAC has announced intentions to construct a corporate office and commercial facility in Sinamangal, as well as a hangar and catering services, and to manage planes such as Chinese and Boeing.
The NAC's strategy raises questions regarding what to do with the Chinese aircrafts that are now grounded.
The government had agreed to lease those Chinese aircrafts and sell them if they were not leased.
Although tenders were initially invited for lease and then for sale, no one responded, therefore there is currently question about what to do with the aircraft. The presiding officer has made a proposal to the board of directors regarding how to manage these planes for the time being.
Similarly, the NAC has stated an ambitious strategy to carry out the Yuvaraj Adhikari-led NAC's ambitions to sell Boeing aircraft engines in Iberia after adequate examination, to sell a Boeing aircraft stalled at the airport, and to operate the self-flight kitchen.
The NAC has proposed establishing and operating a 'Self Flight Kitchen' to serve both its own and other airlines. According to the concept, this will provide significant revenue for the NAC while also creating new jobs.
