Nepal Mountaineering Association Concludes 34th AGM with Policy Approvals and Industry Honors
KATHMANDU, Sep 21:The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) successfully concluded its 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kathmandu, focusing on key milestones for the upcoming fiscal year 2081/082. The meeting saw the approval of crucial policies, programs, and budgets, alongside the recognition of significant contributors to the country's mountain tourism.
In the closed session, General Secretary Mr. Mohan Lamsal presented the policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year, while Treasurer Mr. Mukti Pandey delivered the budget and audit report for fiscal year 2080/081. Active discussions followed, with members offering valuable feedback and suggestions before approving both reports with minor corrections.
During the opening session, the NMA honored the top 10 trekking and expedition agencies for their outstanding contributions to revenue generation through the sale of NMA peak permits. In addition to the agencies, several dignitaries, staff members, and participants of the Mountain Leader Course were recognized for their achievements.
Honorable Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, addressed the AGM, pledging government support to the NMA. He commended the association’s efforts in promoting Nepal’s mountain tourism on the global stage, stating, "I assure you that the NMA will continue its vital role in maintaining Nepal’s prominence in mountain tourism."
Minister Pandey further emphasized that these commitments would be incorporated into the forthcoming amendments of the Tourism Act. “We are working on revising policies, and these changes will be reflected in the new session of the House,” he added.
Notable figures such as Honorable Chairperson Sonam Geljen Sherpa, members of parliament Bhim Acharya and Rajendra Bajgain, and other dignitaries echoed the sentiment, urging the government to expand NMA’s role in boosting Nepal’s tourism sector.
This AGM reflects NMA’s continued commitment to developing Nepal’s mountain tourism industry while ensuring the welfare and recognition of those contributing to its success.
