KATHMANDU, Sep 10:Nepal’s first passenger cable car service, operated by Manakamana Darshan Pvt. Ltd., has undergone a major upgrade with the installation of advanced D-connect technology by Doppelmayr, a renowned Austria cable car manufacturer. This service runs from Cheres in Chitwan to the revered pilgrimage site of Manakamana Mai in Gorkha.
The upgrade, which took two months and involved replacing the main cable and digital systems, was completed with an investment of around Rs. 50 crores. Initially paused on June 31, the service is set to resume on September 17.
The Manakamana Cable Car, first established in 1998 by prominent industrialist Laxman Babu Shrestha, was Nepal's pioneering passenger cable car service. The success of this venture has inspired similar investments across the country. The company recognized as one of the highest taxpayers in the tourism sector, has received multiple honors from the Nepalese government.
After 26 years of operation with analog systems, the Manakamana Cable Car has transitioned to a digital setup. “The company has upgraded its services according to the changes in time and technology, and that process shall continue,” said Rajesh Babu Shrestha, Managing Director of Manakamana Darshan Pvt. Ltd.
