"Nepal-Myanmar direct air flight commercially possible"

President of Nepal Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shiv Kumar Agarwal has expressed his belief that the bilateral relations will be further strengthened during the tenure of the newly appointed Ambassador of Myanmar Myo Myint Maung.

President Agarwal said in a program held at the Embassy of Myanmar in Kathmandu on Monday that the milestone would be reached if direct air flights between Nepal and Myanmar could be started.

Reminding that there are 80 percent Buddhists in Myanmar, he opined that a direct flight from Myanmar to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, is commercially possible. He said that it can also provide services to Nepali speakers who are in large numbers in Myanmar.

He believes that the payment problem, which is a trade problem between Nepal and Myanmar, will be eased during the tenure of the new ambassador. He emphasized that software, handicrafts, high-value agricultural products, tea, coffee, etc. should be promoted among the sectors that Nepal can export.

As the Nepali delegation will visit Myanmar in the coming Baisakh, he asked for facilitation in this too. During the meeting, Myo Myant Maung, Myanmar's ambassador to Nepal, mentioned that the government and people of Myanmar have goodwill towards Nepal and said that it will be further strengthened.

He promised to solve the problems seen in bilateral trade and to support further business expansion. Mentioning that there is a possibility to increase the number of tourists from Myanmar in Nepal, he said that he has a plan to promote direct air service sustainably. He said that there is a need for package programs related to tourism.

To promote tourism, both countries should show documentaries and increase mutual visits, he said. He promised to expand the brotherly relationship with the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce by cooperating with the Nepal-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce.
