Stakeholders demand that national cyber security be maintained and strengthened

KATHMANDU:Stakeholders have stated that significant work is required to strengthen national cyber security in Nepal. Participants in the National Cyber Security Policy 2080 program, held by Information Security Response Team Nepal (NPCERT), stressed this.

The consultation program was organized by NPCERT in collaboration with the Center for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CSRI) and Texas College of Management and IT.

At the event, NPCERT President Chiranjeevi Adhikari stated that national cyber security is critical for strengthening the digital infrastructure, protecting against cyber attacks, and preserving the country's digital assets.

During the program, former DIG Dr. Rajeev Subba stated that an educational program centered on skill development is required to equip the next generation of cyber security professionals.

According to fintech expert Ganesh Ghimire, it is imperative to ensure security of international financial transactions due to cyber security vulnerabilities.

Resham Bhandari of Info Developers stated during the event that there is a need for basic cyber literacy.

He stated that the general public has to be more aware of and understand cyber risks. Sharad Chandra Pyakurel stated on the program that although the policy is currently beneficial, it is not being put into practice.

Similarly, Birendra Singh Dhami stated that an efficient legislative system is required to avoid cybercrime in Nepal.

NPCERT stated that it has been encouraging security awareness throughout industry, academia, and the public sector to strengthen cyber security in Nepal.
