Bhoto Jatra celebrated
Rato Machhindranath's Bhoto (a jewel-studded vest) was displayed in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, on Sunday.
The Bhoto of Rato Machhindranath, the god of rain and good times, is displayed. Bhoto is displayed from all four sides of the chariot in turn.
When Machhindranath's chariot is pulled and brought to Jawalakhel, it is traditional to display Bhoto.
The Rato Machhindranath Chariot Festival includes Bhoto Jatra, an annual cultural and religious occasion where the black vest adorned with jewels, known as "Bhoto," is on display. It is said to have belonged to the serpent king Nagraj.
The longest chariot celebration in the nation, Rato Machchhindranath Jatra, lasts for a month and ends with the vest being displayed.
