Terrible accident due to government's vacillation on aviation safety:RPP
KATHMANDU, July 25:The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) said that the plane crashed in Kathmandu on Wednesday because the government did not pay enough attention to air safety.
On Wednesday, a sourya Airlines plane crashed, killing 18 people and injuring pilot Manisha Ratna Shakya. According to RPPA spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, the big tragedy occurred because the government was hesitant to implement the European Union's suggestions to strengthen the'safety audit'.
The RPP has stated that, while the government's establishing of an investigation committee into the aviation accident is welcome, it will not fix the long-term problem.
"When the number of deaths in road and air accidents is constantly increasing, the government is not looking for a long-term solution, but there is a tendency to create an accident investigation commission and take a report and then sit back without taking any further action," Shrestha, the government's spokesperson, said.
To reduce aviation accidents, the government, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, and airlines service operators must work together to fulfill their responsibilities, according to RPP.
The RPP has extended condolences to the deceased' families following the event in which 65 people from two buses were carried away by a landslide in Chitwan's Simaltal.
It also wished Captain Manisha Ratna Shakya a swift recovery from his injuries sustained in the crash.
