Tourism sector attracts more investment
KATHMANDU, July 18:The tourism industry has seen an increase in investment commitment during the most last fiscal year, 2080/081. According to data published by the Department of Industry, investment commitment in the tourism industry grew in the fiscal year 2080/081, compared to 2079/080.
The tourism industry has noticed an increase in 5 billion in investment pledges. Through the department, investment commitments of 30.53 billion rupees were made in 134 tourism-related industries during the previous fiscal year. In 2079/080, 25.27 billion rupees were invested in 76 tourism-related projects.
The number of projects receiving investment pledges has increased during the last year. Although the number of projects has expanded, the level of investment commitment has not increased proportionally.
According to the department, only seven projects have received investment commitments totaling more than one billion in the past year. There is a two-billion commitment for one cable car project. Prabhu Cable Car Group has entered the sector by operating a cable bar project with a 2 billion rupee investment in Chitwan's Ichchhakamana.
Similarly, investor Rajendra Shakya has made a one billion investment in Hotel Massif Pvt. This is the project registered at the Department of Industry with the highest investment commitment in the tourism sector in the previous year. This hotel has received a 4.81 billion investment commitment. The hotel will contain 475 beds. The hotel is under construction in Gwarko Chowk in Lalitpur.
Similarly, the 'Hotel Atrium' being built by Durga Prasai has been registered with the department. The hotel has received an investment commitment of 2.84 billion. The hotel structure is now complete. The hotel will also feature 100 rooms and a restaurant with a capacity of 200.
A structure will be built in which a casino will also be operated in the hotel of Prasai. The hotel is being built on six bigha of land. The hotel will provide all of the services and facilities required of a five-star hotel, including a casino and a banquet hall. The Prasai plans to open a hotel that will cater to both domestic and foreign tourists.
