CAAN granted permission for C-check of NAC's widebody aircraft
KATHMANDU, June 29:On the initiative of Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadur Tamang, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) gives permission for C-checks and overhauls for the complete repair of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) widebody aircraft.
The CAAN further prohibited the officers, including the NAC's executive director, from serving as accountable managers for sending the widebody aircraft 9 NNY to C-checks without approval.
After the aircraft was sent to Italy via Dubai without the permission of the CAAN, the CAAN asked for an explanation.
His secretary informed him that Minister Tamang had discussed the matter with higher officials and had begun the process of allowing the NAC.
Minister Tamang summoned representatives from the CAAN and NAC to Singha Durbar to inquire about the plane repair procedure. He was also told to complete the C-check immediately.
According to Premnath Thakur, Deputy Director General of the CAAN, the NAC has received permission to conduct a C-check on the aircraft.
NAC spokesperson Ramesh Paudel informed that the NAC has received the letter of permission from CAAN for the C-check of the widebody aircraft.
On June 22, the NAC dispatched one of its widebody aircraft to Italy for repairs via Dubai.
NAC stated that the plane will be returned in a month. NAC has delegated responsibility for maintenance to the Italian company ALTEC S.p.A. (Aerospace Logistics Technology Engineering Company).
