ICHANGU NARAYAN: THE BEST PLACE FOR HIKING AND BIRD WATCHING (Photo Feature)
Ichangu Narayan is one of four famous Narayan temples among to the Hindu god Bisnu. It is located in Nagarjun Municipality, in the western section of Kathmandu, and is historically significant in terms of culture, architecture, and religion.
Aside from its religious significance, it is also well-known and appreciated for its natural beauty, making it a popular hiking and bird-watching destination. The greenery and quiet setting of Ichangu Narayan give habitat for various bird species, and birders can view both resident and migratory birds.
The best times for birding in this location were early morning and late afternoon, when birds were most active. The area around Ichangu Narayan has various scenic hiking and cycling trails. The hikes in this area are relatively strenuous, taking you past terraced fields, dense forest, and a small traditional village. The hiking trail from Ichangu Narayan to Nagarjun forest provides a panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley.
Deforestation and growing residential areas are destroying natural habitats for birds and other animals, resulting in a fall in the number of visiting/migratory birds as well as resident birds. The concerned authority should take the required action to conserve it as a natural habitat for migratory and resident birds, as well as to make it the greatest site for trekking nearby Kathmandu valley.
