Kami Rita Sherpa returned to Kathmandu after a record 30th Everest ascent
KATHMANDU, May 27:Kami Rita Sherpa has returned to Kathmandu after climbing Mount Everest for the 30th time. He was welcomed and honored at Tribhuvan Airport on Friday.
According to the Department of Tourism, he reached the summit of Mount Everest at 7:49 a.m. on May 22.
Khimlal Gautam, the chief of the department's temporary office at the Everest base camp, stated that Kamirita had set a new record by climbing Everest for the 30th time. He previously held the record for ascending Mt. Everest multiple times.
On May 12, he scaled Mount Everest for the 29th time. Pasang Dawa Sherpa of Solukhumbu achieved a remarkable milestone last year when he climbed Everest for the 27th time.
The 54-year-old Kami Rita was born in Thame, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality in Solukhumbu, and ascended Mount Everest for the first time on May 23, 1994. Sherpa also holds the record for the most ascents of peaks over 8,000 meters.
