Photojournalist Purnima Shrestha sets record by summit Mt. Everest three times in a single season
KATHMANDU, May 25:Purnima Shrestha, a photojournalist and mountaineer, achieved a global record by ascending Mount Everest for the third time in single season.
Lakpa Sherpa, Expedition Director at 8K Expeditions stated that she successfully scaled Mount Everest at 5:50 a.m. on Saturday. This is her fourth climb of Mount Everest, making her the first woman to climb the mountain three times in a single season.
She had scaled Mount Everest for the second and third times this season, on May 12 and May 19, respectively.
Shrestha of Arughat Rural Municipality-10 in Gorkha has climbed scores of snow peaks around the world. She scaled Mount Everest for the first time in 2018.
Shrestha, who is on a journey to climb 14 mountains higher than 8,000 meters in the world, ascended K2, Pakistan's second highest peak, in July.
She has climbed seven mountains in Nepal that are higher than 8000 meters. Purnima set out from Manaslu for the first time on an 8,000-meter mountaineering trek. In 2017, she successfully ascended Manaslu.
Shrestha then climbed Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. She is also the first Nepalese woman to summit Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
