Turkish Airlines resumes flights to Afghanistan

KATHMANDU, May 21:A Turkish Airlines plane arrived at Kabul International Airport, resumed flights to Afghanistan after almost three years of hiatus on Tuesday morning.

Turkish Airlines, known as "the airline that flies to more countries than any other in the world" with 346 destinations in 130 countries across six continents, has resumed flights to Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on May 21, 2024.

Ghulam Jilani Wafa, a senior advisor for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, welcomed the move as a sign of amicable improvement in bilateral relations, and expressed hope that more airliners will restart flights to Kabul now that the airport had fulfilled international standards.

"The aerial bridge between the Republic of Türkiye and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan once again assures us that the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish people stand alongside us in any circumstances," Wafa stated.

"Air travel and the flights flying to Kabul and vice versa would have a positive impact on cultural and economic relations between the two countries," Wafa stated.

Turkish Airlines is scheduled to operate four round-trip flights between Istanbul and Kabul per week.

Kabul flights will be available for purchase beginning April 26, 2024, and will operate four times each week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
