Nepal will be developed as an attractive tourist destination

KATHMANDU, May 17:The government plans to promote Nepal as a key and appealing tourist destination.

This is stated in the Government of Nepal's policy and program for fiscal year 2081/082, which was delivered on Tuesday by President Ramchandra Paudel at a joint meeting of both chambers of the Federal Parliament. It is stated that tourist locations' profiles will be produced, as well as their identification, development, and promotion.

President Paudel presented the policy and program, stating that the number of tourists arriving in Nepal has increased, as has the length of their stay. In 2023, 10 lakh 14 thousand 882 foreign tourists visited Nepal. The government's objective of attracting one million foreign tourists by 2023 has been met. The government plans to quadruple the number of tourists next year.

Before the coronavirus epidemic, 11 lakh 97 thousand 91 tourists visited Nepal in 2019. Foreign tourist numbers are expected to increase steadily through 2024. In the last month of April, 1 lakh 11 thousand 378 foreign tourists visited Nepal.

The policy and program state that tourism infrastructure should be prioritized over re-marketing tourism sector programs in order to effectively promote the country's tourist sector.

Nepal will be developed as a tourist attraction by making the structure easily accessible. The policy and program declare that a top-of-the-hill tourist destination will be developed in collaboration with all three levels and the commercial sector to utilize local resources and create jobs in hilly areas with tourism potential. It is stated that the development of tourism route infrastructure, particularly the Great Himalayan route, will be hastened.

The mountaineering permit system will be automated. It is included in strategies and initiatives aimed at building and developing tourism infrastructure, such as tourist rescue centers.
