Supreme Court issues interim order to halt construction resort in Resunga forest
KATHMANDU, May 14:The Supreme Court on Friday has issued an interim ruling prohibiting the construction of a resort in the religiously significant forest area of Resunga in Gulmi.
The bench of Justices Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma and Tek Prasad Dhungana issued an interim order stating that it would be unfair to build a resort in the same location as Dharamshala, a mythological, religious, and archeological site. According to the Supreme Court, the interim order would remain in effect until the writ petition is decided.
On October 18, 2019, Resunga Municipality and Hotel Pauwa Pvt Ltd signed an agreement to establish an international-level resort in Resunga Forest. After work began in accordance with the agreement, Advocate Devi Prasad Rijal filed a writ suit before the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court issued an interim decision, finding that the issues addressed in the writ petition are important and delicate, and that the municipality granted authorization to establish the resort without first getting consent from the authorized organization. The edict states, "Construction work should be kept as it is now, and no further work should be done."
