Department of Tourism honors rope-fixing climbers and icefall doctors who fixed ropes to Everest peak

KATHMANDU, May 12:On Sunday, the Department of Tourism honored the icefall doctors and rope fixing climbers who were in responsible for opening and fixing the climbing route from Everest Base Camp to the top of Mt Everest this year.

Last Friday, the climbing route was officially opened and fixed for the climbing season. Thus, the ascent began on Sunday morning.

The Everest Pollution Control Committee opened and fixed the climbing route from base camp to camp II, while Seven Summit Treks opened and fixed the route from camp II to the summit this year, as per the Department of Tourism.

On Sunday, the Department of Tourism honored both the companies and the icefall doctors they had deployed at the base camp.

The icefall doctors who opened the route up to Camp II are Ang Sarki Sherpa, Dawa Nuru Sherpa, Pemba Tshering Sherpa, Ngima Tenzi Sherpa, Nawang Chhimi Sherpa, Dawa Chhiri Sherpa, Dawa Zangbu Sherpa, and Mingma Gyalzen Sherpa.

Dendi Sherpa, Tenjing Gyaljen Sherpa, Pemba Tashi Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Lakpa Rinjee Sherpa, Namgyal Dorjee Tamang, Dawa Rinjee Sherpa, Pam Dorjee Sherpa, and Suk Bahadur Tamang were among the icefall doctors who opened the route to the summit.

The Department of Tourismt has set up a field office at the base camp to organize this year's ascent.
