Mountaineer dies after return from climbing Mt Makalu
KATHMANDU, May 12:A mountaineer died while returning from climbing the world's fifth-highest peak, Mount Makalu.
Police Inspector Ashok Jabegu of the District Police Office Sankhuwasabha reported that 54-year-old Lakpa Tenji Sherpa of Mahakulung Rural Municipality-4 in Solukhumbu died while returning from climbing.
According to Police Inspector Jabegu, the body of a Sherpa who went missing on the border of Makalu Rural Municipalities 2 and 3 while returning from climbing Mount Makalu was discovered at Makalu Base Camp on Friday afternoon.
He stated that the Sherpa's body was sent to Solukhumbu after being recovered from the site. The Makalu area is deemed geographically problematic due to a lack of transportation and communication facilities.
The site of the incident is five days' trek from the Khandbari headquarters. According to the district police office, the mountaineer Sherpa's body was brought to Solu.
