Lukla air travel soars numbers rise
KATHMANDU, May 11:More than 46,000 people have used the flight service to Lukla in the last four months. Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla compiled data showing that 46,718 travelers used the service overall between January and April. 28,977 of them are visitors from outside the country.
According to airport chief Umesh Kumar Panthi, during this time, 12,122 planes and helicopters made landings.
He said that because of the recent onset of bad weather, 20% of aviation trips had been impacted. On Sunday and Monday, all flights were canceled due to bad weather conditions.
According to him, there are at least 35 and up to 50 flights every day between Ramechhap and Lukla. He stated that there were just 22 flights to this place on Wednesday. Currently, 80 percent of flights depart from Ramechhap.
