Rara Lake-Gamgadhi road starts upgrading
MUGU, May 11:The work of expanding and upgrading the tourist road to Rara Lake has begun. The road construction project from Tali Tum village to Ward No. 3 Lamachaur of Chhayannath Rara Municipality has begun with the financial and technical assistance of the Road Division Office Jumla.
Rara Lake is 2 hours by walk from the district headquarters in Gamgarhi, and 30 minutes by vehicle via Rara airport. Bir Bahadur Jiti, engineer at the road division office, stated that the road expansion construction has begun because the Gamgarhi-Lamachaur distance is short. He stated, "This road expansion and upgrading work has begun to support the tourism development of Rara Lake."
Binamra Construction Sewa Surkhet has secured a road extension contract worth 55 lakh 4 thousand rupees. The contract agreement states that the construction shall be completed by the end of June 2081. The work to widen the tourism route is in full swing.
According to the Road Division Office in Jumla, 1.5 km of the 3 km long tourist road will be filled with 4 meter wide gravel and 450 cubic meters of gabion netting, with the road being widened by 2.5 km. If the Rara tourist route is expanded, Gamgarhi inhabitants, as well as domestic and foreign tourists visiting Mugu district headquarters Gamgarhi via the Karnali Corridor and Karnali Highway, will be able to reach Rara Lake in about 10 minutes.
