414 climbers received permission to climb Mount Everest

KATHMANDU, May 08:414 persons have obtained permission to climbing Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, in the spring season of 2024.

According to the Department of Tourism, 414 climbers, which includes 75 women and 339 men from 41 mountaineering groups, have been granted permission to climb Mount Everest.

Last year, 478 climbers - the highest ever - got permission to climb Mount Everest.

Chun Bahadur Tamang, Section Officer of the Department of Tourism, stated that 971 mountaineers from 112 climbing groups obtained permission to climb 30 summits this season, including Mount Everest.

The government has collected Rs 674.7 million in royalties through the issuance of climbing permits. This season alone, Mount Everest has raised almost Rs 592.3 million.

To ensure their safety, the government has mandated that mountaineers aspiring to ascend Mount Everest carry GPS trackers.

The Department of Tourism has also mandated that climbers use compostable bags similar to those used to collect dog waste.

The effort comes amid widespread criticism that Mt. Everest is becoming a dumping ground as a result of a lack of effective waste management legislation in Nepal's mountains.
