Proposal for direct flights to Bhutan from Gautam Buddha International Airport
KATHMANDU, May 04:Hit Bahadur Tamang, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, offered Bhutan's Ambassador to Nepal, Major General Vetsap Namgyal, a directly flight to Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara International Airport. During a meeting at the ministry on Tuesday, Minister Tamang recommended flying directly to Lumbini, Lord Gautam Buddha's birthplace.
The meeting between the Minister of Tourism and the Ambassador is viewed with importance as Druk Air of Bhutan is showing interest for direct flights to Gautam Buddha International Airport.
Druk Air is interested in flying Buddhist pilgrims directly to Lumbini. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has already announced a special discount for airlines flying international flights at Gautam Buddha Airport.
During the meeting with the Minister of Tourism, the Ambassador also presented a proposal to expedite the land acquisition process for the construction of a Bhutanese monastery in Lumbini.
