Department of Tourism established field office at Everest base camp
KATHMANDU, April 29:A field office has been established at Everest Base Camp to regulate and facilitate mountain climbing during the spring season.
Khimlal Gautam, Deputy Secretary of the Survey Department, has been appointed head of the Department's Field Office. A committee has been constituted at the center, coordinated by the director general of the Department of Tourism, to appoint liaison officers as well as regulate and support all operations.
The committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Tourism, the Nepal Army, the Tourist Police, the Himalayan Rescue Association, the Everest Summiteers Association, and other organizations. Gautam has also been named member secretary of this committee.
The government has assigned 77 liaison officers to various mountains to oversee this season's mountain climbing. According to the Department of Tourism, 48 employees from the Ministry of Tourism and its departments will serve as liaison officers during the spring season of 2024. Some of them have reached the field and some have yet to reach the field.
