Arrival of religious visitors resumed
KATHMANDU, April 26:In Nepal, the arrival of religious visitors, which had halted after the Covid-19 pandemic, started again.
According to data from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, 1,32,949 tourists visited religious sites in 2023. This is the highest since the start of the covid outbreak.
In 2023, Nepal received a total of one million 14,882 tourists. Among them, the number of those who come for religious purposes is 13.1 percent. In 2019, 1,71,937 persons came on religious pilgrimage. In 2018, 1,69,180 people visited for religious reasons.

In 2023, 6,34,301 people came to celebrate holiday. This represents 62.5 percent of total tourist arrivals. 1,54,262 people came to hike and mountain climb. This comprises 15.2 percent of the total arrivals. This year, 93,370 people came for other reasons. This is 9.2%.
There are 1,18,531 religious tourists who visited the Pashupatinath Temple. It excludes the number of Indian citizens. In 2022, only 55,204 tourists visited Pashupatinath Temple.
In 2023, 2,60,000 people visited Lumbini. In 2022, 2,30,863 individuals went to Lumbini. Apart from Indians, 85,232 travelers from other countries have visited Lumbini. Last year, the number of tourists from third countries that visited Lumbini was 23,942.
