STLRP launches Janakpurdham guide book

KATHMANDU, Feb 25:A guidebook to Janakpurdham has been prepared to promote tourism in Janakpur.

The guidebook was released in conjunction with the Janakpur Literary Festival's fifth edition, which took place in Janakpur.

The guidebook  is meant to provide both internal and foreign tourists visiting Janakpur with information on the Janakpur temple and other tourist attractions in the surrounding area.

The guidebook includes an overview of Janakpurdham, its historical and religious significance, information about other holy and touristic locations near Janakpur, as well as Mithila art and gastronomy.

The Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP) was conducted in collaboration with the NTB and United Nations Development Program, Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan and Greater Janakpur Area Development Council, Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) Madhesh Pradesh, and Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) Madhesh Pradesh  the guidebook has been prepared in coordination and cooperation.

Shradha Shrestha, the STLRP's national program coordinator, stated that Janakpur is a worldwide religious tourism destination and that the prominence of Janakpur has recently increased with the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, India. The publication of the handbook is expected to assist promote Janakpur's tourism.

The STLRP prepared to print books in three more languages: Nepali, Maithili, and Hindi.

Manoj Kumar Shah, mayor of Janakpur sub-metropolitan city, stated that the book provides an overview of Janakpur in one place and will assist individuals seeking to understand Janakpur.

The project, in partnership with the Janakpur sub-metropolitan city, had already performed short-term employment, garbage management, signage installation, and other tasks in Janakpur.

This initiative included the rebuilding of Nocha Pond in Janakpur, as well as the cleaning of the Janakpur temple complex, airport, and other locations.

When many tourism workers lost their jobs owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nepal Tourism Board, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP).
