Vintage Car Rally: The Distinguished Gentleman's Drive Returns on September 23
KATHMANDU, Sep 17:Nepal's vintage car enthusiasts are gearing up for a special event, the "Distinguished
Gentleman's Drive," set to roll out on September 23, 2023. This rally, organized by Vintage and Classic Wheels Nepal, invites classic vehicles from the 1980s and earlier to join in the excitement.
The "Distinguished Gentleman's Drive" is a fundraiser for Movember. Participants are encouraged to visit GentlemansDrive.com and their social media platforms for more details on how to register, contribute, and be part of the vintage car rally while supporting a worthy cause.
The event promotion was conducted on Saturday in front of the Lalitpur Metropolitan City Office, Pulchowk. This rally is in collaboration with Budweiser, and supported by Movember, a charity dedicated to raising awareness and funds for men's mental health and prostate cancer.
The drive is set to start at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m., taking participants on a picturesque route. The journey begins at the International Club, Sanepa and continues through Durbar Marg, Baneshwor, Koteshwor, Satdobato, Harisiddhi, culminating at the serene Godavari Village Resort.
Over 100 vintage cars are expected to participate, each with its own unique story to tell. Among them is the classic 1988 Toyota Corolla SE, affectionately known as "Rath." This vintage gem has a heartwarming backstory. Rath was once the proud possession of the owner's father, and after changing hands, it was rebought by the current owner and lovingly remodeled. From a sentimental 1968 Volkswagen Beetle affectionately named "Devi" to a timeless 1977 Mercedes W123, this rally promises to be a trip down memory lane.
Twinkle Nyachhyon Rajbhandari, President of Vintage and Classic Wheels Nepal, expressed that this event is a celebration of Nepal's heritage, where old cars are an integral part of the nation's history. She also emphasized the importance of eco-friendly practices and highlighted that vintage vehicles can be remodeled to be more environmentally friendly. She said, “An iron never gets old. We can utilize these timeless vehicles to reflect and preserve the heritage of Nepal.”
In addition to the rally, there will be a competition where participants can win an opportunity to enjoy a ride in one of the vehicles, during the event. To participate, create a video featuring classic vintage cars and talk about the event or raise awareness about men's mental health.
Videos should be shared on TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook, using the event hashtags:
#Gentlemansride, #DGD2023, #Movember, #Budweiser, and #Vintageandclassicwheelsnepal. The winner will be decided based on the video with the most likes.
This event started last year on December 13. It is happening worldwide on the 24th, but on the
23rd in Nepal to adjust for traffic jams on Saturday, for which plans are made. Classic Wheels Nepal plans to continue this program annually and is open for private drives to be organized as well.
