New Era: Narendra Kunwar Leads Nepal's Tourist Police

KATHMANDU, Sep 12:Yesterday, at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu an event of great significance unfolded as the tourism community gathered for a special ceremony organized to bid farewell to Mr. Sugandha Shrestha, the outgoing Chief of Tourism Police, and to warmly welcome Mr. Narendra Kunwar as the new Chief.

In a heartfelt farewell address, Mr. Sugandha Shrestha, the outgoing Chief of Tourism Police, fondly looked back on his tenure and expressed his appreciation for the welcoming working environment he encountered. This event took place today, marking a significant moment in the tourism police department's history.

Mr. Shrestha's address was filled with reflections and aspirations. He emphasized the department's vital role in guiding tourists through Nepal's natural beauty and rich culture, expressing unwavering confidence in the division's capabilities to address tourist issues. Drawing from his unique 11-month experience in the police force, he underlined the remarkable dedication of the tourism police to safeguarding Nepal's vibrant tourism industry.

Extending heartfelt gratitude, Mr. Shrestha recognized the invaluable support of various agencies related to tourism, highlighting the fruitful partnerships forged with organizations like Manav Sewa Ashram, Tranquility Hospital, TAAN (Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal), HAN (Hotel Association Nepal), NRA (Nepal Tourism Board), and numerous other agencies and embassies.

He proudly informed attendees that tourism police units are deployed across 15 districts outside the Kathmandu Valley, each fully equipped with resources from the tourism division itself. These units have been instrumental in fostering significant developments in regions like Tanahun and Manang, boosting tourism opportunities.

Notably, Mr. Shrestha shared that the tourism police have been actively engaged in language acquisition programs, including English, Chinese, French, and Russian, to better cater to the diverse needs of international tourists.

In a poignant moment, Mr. Shrestha expressed his commitment to improving the Tourism Act, aiming to create a more welcoming and secure environment for tourists visiting Nepal. He closed his address by extending his heartfelt wishes for success to the newly appointed Chief, Mr. Narendra Kunwar.
