Star hotel attracting domestic tourists with monsoon offers

KATHMANDU, August 9: Star hotels located in in Kathmandu have launched the ‘Monsoon Offer’ schemes and packages to attract tourists citing decreasing flow of visitors. Various hotels in the country are now offering a couple-night package for Rs 9,000.  

Yak and Yeti Hotel are currently offering a couple package with bread and breakfast for Rs 12,000. Similarly, Hotel Malla has launched a dinner with an unlimited barbecue at Rs 1,600 every Friday. Radisson Hotel has also brought forth an interesting couple package for Rs 19,500 which includes a night stay including breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an hour of SPA facility for its customers. 

Likewise, Fish Tail Lodge of Pokhara and Jagatpur Lodge of Meghauli have also introduced a BB plan for couples with interesting rooms. Children under six years will be given free service as well.  

Other hotels are also introducing such plans as the rooms are empty due to a lack of non-foreign tourists. Instead of keeping rooms empty, hotels have brought various offers to attract domestic tourists.

Hotels have said that after the 'monsoon offer', the movement of domestic tourists has increased. “As it is the monsoon season, the arrival of foreign tourists has decreased. That is why we have implemented the monsoon package for domestic tourists", said Govind Adhikari, sales director of Yak & Yeti.

Radisson Hotel claims that the occupancy has increased to about 60 percent after attracting domestic tourists to its package. Fishtail Lodge has 61 rooms and currently has 45 percent occupancy. Jagatpur Lodge has also reached 30 percent occupancy.

Hotel Barahi in Pokhara has brought a corporate outing package. A group of at least 25 people went to the hotel and the price per person is fixed at 2500 rupees.
