CAAN writes to Air India about a violation of air traffic rules

KATHMANDU, March 27:The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has written to Air India regarding an incident in which the Air India plane was flying at an altitude of 15,000 feet without permission from an air traffic controller (ATC).

Prior to landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), an Air India flight en route from New Delhi to Kathmandu was suddenly lowered to 15,000 feet from an altitude of 19,000 feet without permission from ATC.

At the same time, a Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) plane flying from Malaysia to Kathmandu was flying at 15,000 feet. A fatal accident was narrowly avoided as the NAC aircraft took flight.

Spokesperson of CAAN Jagannath Niraula confirmed that the Air India is written to inform the CAAN about the action to the pilot after an investigation into the case.

He also said that the CAAN has also formed probe panel over the issue and the ATC deployed during that time have been prevented from working in the 'Active Position'.
