Conference on sustainable mountain tourism started in Chandragiri

KATHMANDU, Dec 01: A three-day international conference on sustainable mountain tourism has started from Thursday at Chandragiri Hills Resort in Chandragiri, Kathmandu.

The conference was inaugurated by Minister of Culture and Tourism Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha. Addressing the opening program, Minister Shrestha said that the conference will prove to be a special milestone for the necessary policy changes in Nepal's mountain tourism.

Suresh Adhikari, secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Tourism and Civil Aviation, expressed his belief that the conference will help Nepal's mountain tourism.

At the conference, American geologist Dr. Alten Bayer said that the mountain tourist spots are disappearing due to infrastructure development in Nepal and such places should be protected.

Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Dr. Dhananjay Regmi said that 100 tourism workers and scientists will participate in the three-day conference. He said that the various researches in sustainable mountain areas and solutions to the problems of mountain tourism in the time of global climate change will be discussed.
