Nepal and Switzerland sign MoU for direct air connectivity

KATHMANDU, Oct 09: Nepal and Switzerland have signed an agreement to connect directly by air. Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Pradeep Adhikari informed that there is an agreement between the CAAN and Switzerland to advance the process of bilateral air agreement and before that the airlines can fly if they want.

According to the director general officer, Swiss International Airlines has entered into an agreement with Singapore Airlines and India's Vistara Airlines  as they want to fly to Nepal through a 'code share' agreement. In this case, Switzerland and Kathmandu will be directly connected to the air network. An air service agreement between the two countries has also been signed in the month of January.

According to the official, an agreement has been reached so that Swiss International Airlines can fly to both Gautam Buddha and Tribhuvan Airports. If other airlines want to fly from Nepal, it is possible. An agreement was reached between the two countries at the International Civil Aviation Organization conference in Canada.

On the other hand, preparations have progressed to connect with Nepal and America in the air network. "The work to be done by the American regulatory body has almost been completed, only because we have some preparations left, an agreement with the US is yet to be reached," said the director general officer.

He said that this will open the doors for the airlines of both countries to go to each other's countries. The Director General also informed that an agreement will be signed with both countries in January.
