Second edition of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition started today
KATHMANDU, Jan 29:The second edition of the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition has started. The competition started on Wednesday, at the Gateway Adventure Hub in Jagdol.
Gokarneshwor Municipality Mayor Deepak Kumar Risal inaugurated the competition. He said, "Today I am very happy to take the name of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. I consider such programs important in Nepal. Nepal is known as a mountain country. That is why I am interested in it."
Risal said that the municipality is also supporting the organizers. He said that the municipality will also support if they want to build a climbing wall related to climbing in Shahid Park in our municipality.
Applications for the competition, which was jointly organized by the US Nepal Climbers Association and the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, were open from January 15 to 25. More than 50 people have participated in it. According to Serap Jangbu Sherpa, founding president and representative of the US Nepal Climbers Association, the competition will be held until today January 29 to 30.
As per the rules, only those above the age of 12 have participated in the competition, and separate competitions will be held between men and women. The first, second and third place women/men will receive cash prizes of Rs 45,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
