Nepal hikes permit fee for Everest climbing to $15000
KATHMANDU, Jan 23:The Nepal government has hiked the mountain climbing royalty. With the issuance of the Mountaineering Regulations 2081, the government has also raised the fee for climbing Everest.
The Everest climbing royalty has been increased from 11,000 USD in the spring season to 15,000 USD.
Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, Director General of the Department of Tourism, stated that the government has increased the royalty for Everest climbing, which will take effect in the spring season. Regmi states that the government has increased the royalty for Everest climbing as part of regulations aimed at making climbing safer and more arranged.
According to such regulations, foreign citizens will have to pay a $4,000 royalty more than they do now while climbing Everest, and work will begin to coordinate and secure the ascent.
According to Regmi, mountaineering rules have increased the fee of climbing Everest in the spring. In other seasons, arrangements have been struck to pay lower royalty.
The regulations' prioritize is to make climbing various mountains, including Mount Everest, as safe as possible, and the department says that royalties have not received sufficient attention.
When the regulations were changed four times in 2059, there was a provision requiring tourists traveling in groups to pay a royalty of $10,000 per person and $11,000 per individual for solo travelers.
The department also says that the climbing fee for all mountains above 8,000 meters, including Mount Everest, has been raised, and steps have been made to make climbing safer.
Nepal has 461 mountains that are open for climbing. The Nepal Mountaineering Association manages 27 of these mountains. The regulations, approved by the government last week, will take effect once published in the gazette.
