Mundum trekking route significant potential for tourism: Tourism Minister Pandey

KATHMANDU, Jan 16:Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, stated that the Mundum Trek has significant tourism potential.

Minister Pandey, who inaugurated the 'Mundum Trekking Tour Year 2025' hosted by Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality in Bhojpur district, stated that Mundum Trekking has significant potential for the growth and promotion of tourism in the Koshi Province, as well as being convenient for trekking. 'This trekking route contributes considerably to the preservation, development, and advancement of Kiranti and Mundum culture,' he stated. 'This walking path passes through several tourism and Kiranti cultural sites. This has elevated the prominence of this walking path.

This trekking route, which is almost 100 kilometers long, has settlements mostly belonging to the Kirant community. The name of this trekking route is 'Mundum' since the areas mentioned are associated with the Kiranti lifestyle, customs, and culture. Minister Pandey stated that the Mundum trekking path is one that connects culture and tourism.

The trekking route, which starts from the 3,165-meter Temkedanda area on the border of Bhojpur and Khotang, passes through the 3,350-meter Maiyung Danda, the 4,155-meter Silichung Danda, and reaches the 3,750-meter Salpa Pokhari.

When the weather is clear, the trekking route offers views of six mountains greater than 8,000 meters, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Lhotse.

On a side note, Tourism Minister Pandey stated that the development of the air sector is equally important for the growth of the tourism sector. Minister Pandey stated that he is working to expand the number of planes because Nepal does not have enough of them, as well as to reopen the shuttered airport.
